Twenty-six - Pangushi and his dogs
Pangushi and his dogs were found in the middle of the great desert one Thursday afternoon around tea time. It is said that they had been wanderers there for many years, that the red soil and desert sun had baked and stained their fur and skin strange colours and mottled hues like lost rainbows, a sad and earthbound celestial splendour. They were wild and savage when the Ringmaster approached them, but he soothed their souls with dog biscuits and chocolate pudding and made them a part of his show. Now they frolic and cavort where once they hunted and snarled. But every full moon they leave the shadow of the big top and roam the wild once more. You can see it in their eyes even still. A madness. A hunger. A howling passion that can never be tamed.
